Everything Old is New Again

Eat Real Food Every Day, Every Meal.

Most of what the diet and health experts are teaching is the same thing our great grandparents taught our grandparents. If you want to avoid being sick avoid the things that your great grandparents wouldn’t recognize or know how to pronounce – the foods that consist of new and artificial substances. Most illness today, including obesity and diabetes are  directly related to the ‘new’ advances particularly in the refinement of our grains and the manufacturing of foods with un-natural, man-made additives to increase shelf-life, appearance, preparation, and of course consumption.

Researching this topic, I found that Lets Live Magazine recommended cutting out refined carbs in 1933.  And in the 50’s they warned against the use of hydrogenated (trans) fats in the 50’s, it has taken five decades before the FDA acknowledged this as fact and required manufacturers to identify these fats on their labels. Keep in mind that the FDA gives manufacturers loose guidelines in reporting the ingredients and nutritional information on their labels.  It is not always the most intelligent thing to believe what you read on the label.

Here are 10 health tips from the 1930’s and 1940’s:

  • For more vitality eat foods that are close to their natural forms because they have more vitality.

  • Use honey to stimulate your heart.  Put a teaspoon of honey in a glass of water, and flavor with a citrus fruit juice.  Add a few dashes of cinnamon and drink.

  • Walking strengthens your heart and your lungs.  Walking builds internal strength, increases circulation making the heart and the lungs more vital.

  • Drink fresh squeezed juices.  One study showed that juices loose 10% of vitamin strength if left overnight.

  • Don’ smoke, tobacco destroys the lungs having nicotine as an ingredient it is one of the deadliest poisons.

  • Consider an anti-aging diet which eliminates white sugar and white flour products, coffee, vinegar, fried foods, ham, bacon and corned beef.  Your diet should consist of  50% raw foods with broiled lean meat and whole grain bread.

  • Eat more raw food, steam or if you boil them do not drain them-  drink the juice.

  • Cleanse your gallbladder with radishes.  Put fresh radishes, white or red, through a vegetable juice extractor.  Add a little lemon juice.  Mix it half and half with grapefruit juice if desired.  Drink 1 cup two to three times a week.

  • Take care of your teeth by avoiding sugar. It is well known that the right kind of diet has much to do with good teeth and such a diet does not contain sugar. (Avoid Sugar)

  • Keep moving.  The matured body lacks resiliency of youth unless the muscles have been disciplined with training.

What was true then is true now, eating more whole foods and exercising increases optimum physical health and performance from your body.

Eating Your Way to Self- Realization

Philosophers and doctors throughout the ages have taught that each person is entirely unique, with different nutritional needs and requirements to perform optimally. Now this theory has come back to the forefront of health and nutrition research because doctors and scientists acknowledge inconsistent responses to food, medications and treatments from one person to the next. Interestingly, these differences do not occur within standard groups or categories of people. We are not created the same no matter what sex, race, religion, creed, or nationality, each person has their own unique set of requirements for health.

Although we share common universal needs such as food, clothing, shelter, water, and air, there are still differing remedies and requirements from one individual to the next to meet even these needs. This is sometimes referred to as bio-individuality and what is even more fascinating about this is that your unique remedies for optimum physical, mental and emotional performance and health changes all the time.
